The Story of this Workshop

Hi! I’m Quinn Corte, Founder of The Retreat Space, and I’m delighted to share a new workshop with you about getting your needs met. I’ll be guiding it live on Zoom for our community* or you can watch the workshop video on your own time, whenever you like.

The self-inquiry process I’m sharing in this workshop is actually something I created organically for myself, as I was grappling with certain unmet needs. The insights I had were so eye-opening that I want to share it with you and can’t wait to talk about what you uncover. This is a particularly useful exercise for those of you in the midst of big life transitions or decisions, and for those of you who are struggling to identify what you need or how to get it.

Here’s the thing about Needs. We are taught two conflicting, harmful narratives in our culture.

1. Need less: stay small, fit in, keep your head down, live simply, don’t over-consume, don’t rock the boat, don’t be too much or too loud or too needy. Also, you’re on your own. 

AND…

2. Need more: buy a lot of stuff, be ambitious, “have it all,” you’re never enough, “you’ll be happy someday when…” Once you acquire the mythical, perfect combination of things and people and status, you will “arrive” at fulfillment.

As a culture, we are stuck in between a scarcity and a consumerist mentality. This workshop will help us move away from this binary thinking and into a more nuanced and permission-giving space.

Because the truth is: we are not robots. We are complex human beings who need a lot, ranging from survival needs to soulful needs. AND those needs are both constantly changing and highly individual.

And while it is absolutely healthy and natural to need and depend on other people, a lot of us find ourselves waiting for a partner, job, move, or some Next Big Thing to swoop in and make it all better.

In this workshop you’ll get honest with yourself about what’s lacking in your life and gently ask why those needs aren’t getting met--whether its because of external circumstances, a particular season of life, a story you’re telling yourself about the worthiness of that need, or maybe you have expectations that something external will fill that need, when instead it's time to source those needs from within or from elsewhere.

So come explore with us! In this supportive and playful space, I’ll lead you through a guided, hands-on exercise designed to spark new insights from the comfort of your couch. I’ll also invite you to explore whatever comes up through journaling and optional group sharing (if you’re joining live*).

It’s my hope that you leave this workshop with tons of food for thought along with very practical and personally-defined next steps for getting what you need in your life right now.
